THE GUILLOTINE
The Guillotine was invented in 1792. It is a device designed for carrying out executions by beheading. It has a tall upright frame and an angled blade that is suspended at the top of the machine. The total weight of the guillotine is 1278 lbs. The metal blade is 88.2 lbs. The beheading takes 2/100 of a second.
Condemned people were those who lost their heads to the guillotine. People that stole, kill, or did unthinkable things were punished, and embarrassed in front of their family and the whole village as well. In the picture above, a man that did one of these wrongful doings is being punished for his actions.
The Guillotine chopped any head of any person that was condemned, even The Authority suffered this fate if the people of the city or village rebelled against their word or rule. During the French Revolution however, The Authority did suffer this fate but they subjected alot of people before they knew it was their turn to die on the Guillotine. Many popular rulers like King Louis XVI, his wife Marie Antoinette, and Maximilien Robespierre lost their on the Guillotine. These three people abused their power in a way that was horrendous towards the people. They thought they were helping, but the country was turning worse each year a new ruler entered.
